The District Education Office, Lalitpur, is going to merge 24 schools in view of declining number of students and geographical proximity.
The DEO has already written to the concerned schools for their mergers, said District Education Officer, Mahendra Bahadur Chhetri. Three schools were merged in the district last year.
There are altogether 194 community schools where the number of students stands at 29,149. Similarly, there are 267 private schools.
DEO Chhetri informed that the schools having very few students and the geographical viability for integration will be merged. Some can be downgraded too, he added.
Among the schools which are in the merger process, nineteen are primary and five the lower secondary.
Over the last five year, as many as 18 schools were merged in the district. One of the reasons behind the low number of students is the migration, and attraction to the city education and life. RSS
