Curfew in Bara 1 killed, 2 injured from APF firing

A local — Jaya Narayan Patel — was killed and two others were injured when Armed Police Force (APF) personnel opened fire during a clash with locals at Mahadevsthan of Hariharpur VDC in Bara on Saturday, October 11, 2014. Authorities are saying police had fired in the air to disburse the crowd.

Parashuram Adhikari, the Chief District Officer (CDO) of Bara, told nepalnews that an APF patrol had fired in the air after a crowd of protestors tried to attack its commander — a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) who he did not name.

Aryal said the shots went awry as the crowd was very large some rounds fired up in air ‘missed’ and hit people on the ground.

Mahadevsthan residents, who have been protesting for the last five days demanding repairs to their road section, had also clashed with the police on Friday.

The Local Administration Office enforced a curfew after the situation became even more tense as locals placed Patel’s dead body in front of the Area Police Office in Simraungadh and started protesting.

The two injured people have been flown to Kathmandu for treatment.
