A group of land owners today submitted a memorandum to District Administration Office, Kaski, urging distribution of compensation before acquiring land for construction of Pokhara Regional International Airport.
Land and house victims’ struggle committee of Kajipokhari, submitted a six-point memo to chief district officer Krishna Bahadur Raut today.
They have demanded Rs 3.5 lakh for each ‘hand of land’ and evaluation of the houses in the areas.
Other demands include: construction of the airport only after paying all compensation; guarantee of employment to displaced families as per their qualification, and others.
Dil Bahadur Karki, Chairman of the committee argued that they had demanded very nominal compensation and the state needed to be very serious about their demands.
Kaski CDO Raut said the real owners will be provided proper compensation, but they were not ready to address the demands of the land mafia. Though the government had acquired 3,106 ropani land at Chhinnedanda of Kaski four decades ago, it had initiated the process of acquiring 600 ropani more land saying the land was not sufficient for construction of the airport.
The government is now preparing to distribute compensation to land owners.
Minister for Tourism Bhim Acharya had said the state had allocated Rs 1 billion for compensation. Nepal Civil Aviation Authority and Chinese CCMC Company signed an agreement to complete the the airport following the EPC model within three years on May 22 in Kathmandu.
