College staffer expelled for sexually ‘blackmailing’ students

Police on Saturday detained a staffer of the Nepalgunj Medical College, Chinapani, on charge of sexually ‘blackmailing’ female students of the MBBS programme.

Hemant Pandey, Personal Assistant for the college Principal, was arrested after students resorted to protests against Pandey.

DSP Janak Shahi of the Kohalpur Area Police Post said police released him after some hours after Pandey confessed the crime and committed not to repeat it.

The college, however, expelled him from the service

According to the college sources, Pandey was found guilty for inviting girls for ‘closer relationships’ assuring them of good marks in practical examinations.

Pandey had threatened students that he might deduce their score if they denied his requests for ‘relationships.’

Pandey’s act was revealed when a student recorded Pandey’s telephone conversation with her yesterday and made it public today, calling other students to protest his act.

Pandey’s voice can be heard in the telephone recording as saying, “I miss you…I like you…Please, say good night to me every night…I will greet you good morning everyday at 5 am.”

Some girl students even claimed that he used some swear words in the conversations and hence refused to make the talks public.

Meanwhile, the college administration expelled Pandey from the service. Managing Director of the college, Suresh Kumar Kanaudiya, said the institute expelled him after an internal probe found him involved in unethical activities.

Students stopped the protests after the college’s decision. Earlier, they had padlocked the administration.
