The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has suspended six officials including two general directors of the health department for their alleged involvement in procuring medicine related to child delivery.
CIAA has recommended further action against incumbent Director General Dr Lakhan Lal Sah and Dr Tara Prasad Pokharel for their alleged involvement in medicine procurement scam.
The other arrested officials include former DG Dr Mingmar Gyaljen Sherpa, Dr Naresh Pratap KC, Head of National Center for Aids and STD Control, Senior Public Health Administrator Krishna Bahadur Chand, Public Health Officers Pawan Prasad Koirala, Ram Sundar Yadav and Public Health Inspector Him Lal Gyawali.
The accused have been kept in the custody for further investigation, reads the CIAA statement. Likewise, the anti-graft body has also recommended suspension of DG Sah and Pokharel, citing that investigation would be affected if they stay put in their posts, said the statement.
Earlier, the government had suspended five officials in three months ago.
The arrestees have been accused of procuring low quality medicine, over-invoicing and importing more than required amount, among others.
