CIAA directs ministries to fix medical education fee ceiling

Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Friday directed the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health and Population to fix a ceiling of maximum fees for medical education at all colleges across the nation.

In the wake of frequent complaints registered at the anti-graft constitutional body regarding rampant fee collection at medical colleges, the Commission held a meeting among secretaries of the two ministries, office bearers of various universities and representatives of the Nepal Medical Council.

The meeting directed all concerned authorities to implement the ceiling of fees from the next academic session, as per the section 28 of the CIAA Act, 1991, the commission said in a press statement today.

Likewise, the meeting also directed the universities to take admissions on the merit basis in all programmes of medical education.

It also urged the universities and institutions to allocate an exclusive quota for Nepali students.

The CIAA also suggested the ministries to draft a human resource planning estimating need of medical professionals in the nation and take further steps in medical education accordingly. Source: THT
