The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Wednesday arrested nine top officials of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) for irregularities in bonus distribution.
“The CIAA had earlier written to the Ministry of Finance that the NOC is not eligible to distribute bonus to its staff until it reaches a situation of profit,” said a statement released by the CIAA on Wednesday.
“Ignoring our instruction, the NOC illegally distributed bonus amounting to Rs 17 million, though it was in loss of Rs 11.4 billion, as per the financial report of fiscal year 2066/67,” said the statement.
The bonus distribution itself is an act of further plunging the NOC into loss, it added. “Therefore, we have arrested its top officials for further investigation.”
The arrested officials of NOC include: Sagar Satyal (acting executive director), Nagendra Sah (director), Kamal Prasad Sharma, Baburam Rai and Netra Prasad Kafle (managers), Sharad Prasad Poudel (deputy director), Nawa Binod Pokhrel (deputy manager), Pradip Man Wasi (assistant manager) and Debi Prasad Neupane (senior assistant).
Deputy director Sushil Bhattarai is absconding and the CIAA is searching for him.
