A gang of four motorborne persons robbed two Chinese tourists of their cash, documents and gadgets in the wee hours of Monday from tourist hub Jyatha of the Capital.
The gang fled the scene, carjacking a Tata Sumo jeep that the victims had used.
Police said Hang Kui and Lijz Xin Jhang Lin were heading to Kantipath from the Jyatha-based Beijing Hotel on the jeep (Ba 8 Cha 6434) at around 4 am today.
The Chinese nationals encountered four motorcycle-borne masked persons some minutes after they left the hotel, who forced the tourists to get out of the vehicle, according to police.
One Jyanjo Sherpa of Tatopani-3, Sindhupalchok, currently residing in Swayambhu of the Capital, was driving the jeep, police said.
The robbers then took away the jeep that also had properties of the tourists, police said.
Rs 1 million in cash, Chinese Yuan 20,000, a Chinese citizenship certificate, a Chinese passport, a mini-mobile set and a digital camera were lost in the incident.
Police are searching the vehicle along with suspects and looking into the case.
