Preparations are underway for the celebration of the Chhath festival. In this connection, various river banks in the country including the Ranipokhari, a historic pond in the capital, are being decorated and special worship platforms are being constructed on the banks.
Ranipokhari has been cleaned up and decorated for the Chhath celebrations.
Worship of Chhati Maiya (ancient Vedic goddess), offering arghya to the setting and rising sun, conclusion of the festival celebration, offering of prasad to devotees and immersion of an idol of Chhati Maiya are the parts of festival. Chhath is an ancient Hindu festival dedicated to the Sun God and Chhati Maiya.
Parking facility for devotees has been arranged at Tri-Chandra Campus, Ghataghar, Tundikhel and Durbar High School. Lighting up of firecrackers has been completely banned inside the Ranipokhari premises, according to Committee Chairman Ramchandra Saha.
Commoners wishing to observe the festival can visit the Ranipokhari from 1:00 am to 6:30 pm.(RSS)
