Carjacking robbers land in police net

Police said they succeeded in arresting five out of seven persons involved in two separate incidents of carjacking and robbing taxi drivers on the outskirts of Kathmandu. 

One of the persons was involved in both the incidents, while two persons are still on the run.

According to police, five persons boarded a taxi at Gurjudhara, Thankot at around 9:30 pm on September 7, and asked the taxi driver, Puskar Khatri (25), to take them to Srijana Chowk.

Upon reaching the destination they wielded a sharp weapon to rob him of Rs 7,000 and a cellular mobile set, police said. 

They made the driver to leave the taxi (Ba1Ja 8549) and fled driving it.

The taxi was later found by police at Balambu the following day. 

Four people–Binod Adhikari (24) of Hetaunda-9, Makawanpur; Kiran Shrestha (26) of Charikot, Dolakha; and Binod Maharjan (25) of Naya Naikap-1, and Subin Bohora (17) of Tinthana, Kathmandu–involved in the crime have been arrested. 

In another incident on Thursday evening, Shrestha and two others robbed a taxi driver and carjacked taxi (Ba1Ja 6274) in similar fashion. 

Shrestha along with two of his accomplices boarded taxi at Dhungeadda of Tinthana VDC, and compelled driver Sanadhwaj Lama (30) to take them to Salyanthan of Kirtipur after 9 pm, before robbing him of Rs 5,200 and one mobile.

Rupendra Thapa Magar (43) of Tinthana-6 of Kathmandu district has been arrested in connection with the incident, while third person is still at large.
