A campus chief in Bajura district has spent scholarship fund worth Rs 2.3 million to purchase his private land.
Nawaraj Joshi, chief of Badimalika Campus in the district has admitted using the fund meant for students to buy land for private purpose.
Joshi, without seeking consent from the campus management committee, had withdrawn the amount from the fund to purchase private land in Dhangadhi.
According to Dammar Thapa, one of the committee members, Joshi used the fund against government regulations for his personal work. It has been learnt that he had borrowed Rs 2.3 million from the campus scholarship fund at 1 percent interest per annum.
The government provides campuses with scholarship fund to encourage talented and needy students.
While responding to the management committee, Joshi had first claimed that he did nothing wrong as the fund could be used in different ways for the welfare of the campus. Later as he failed to convince the committee, he admitted to have used the fund for personal purpose.
According to the locals, it is not the first time Joshi has misused his authority. They blamed that he had done so on several occasions earlier and teachers had also announced strike against him.
However, this is certainly the first time the teachers decided to file a case against him. They have filed complaint against him with 45 various allegations at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
