CA formally sets Sept 20 to promulgate new statute

The Constituent Assembly (CA) has set 5 pm on September 20 for the promulgation of the new constitution by endorsing a proposal to that end despite unconfirmed answer from the president regarding his presence at the CA.

With the endorsement, President Ram Baran Yadav should compulsorily be present at the ceremony.

The CA meeting passed the proposal tabled by Nepali Congress (NC) Chief Whip Chinkaji Shrestha and seconded by UML’s Agni Prasad Kharel and UCPN(Maoist)’s Girirajmani Pokharel.

Earlier, the CA Secretariat had sent an invitation to President to attend the function. The CA passed the proposal following dubious answer from the president’s office.

It is learnt that President Yadav is not for promulgating new constitution in the status quo.

Parties have agreed to hold election for the head of the state after new constitution is enforced. Yadav has been in the post since seven years.
