Nepal lost to arch rival Afghanistan by 8 runs in quarterfinals of 17th Asian Games Men’s cricket competition in Incheon, South Korea on Wednesday.
With the loss, Nepal has also crashed out of the 17th Asian Games.
Chasing 120-run victory target set by Afghanistan, Nepal could only made 111 runs at the loss of 7 wickets in allotted 20 overs.
Except Binod Bhandari (48) and Gyanendra Malla (30), none of the batsmen contributed runs for Nepal. For Afghanistan, Fareed Ahmad grabbed four important Nepali wickets.
Earlier, Afghanistan had set 120-run target against Nepal.
After being sent to bat first, Afghanistan scored 119 runs at the loss of 9 wickets in allotted 20 overs.
Mohammad Shahzad top scored with 42 runs for Afghanistan while Mohammad Nabi, Qaseem Khan, Samiullah Shenwari and Gulbadin Naib contributed 18, 12, 11,11 runs respectively.
For Nepal Shakti Gauchan and Sagar Pun took two wickets each while Sompal Kami grabbed a wicket.
Afghanistan has always proved to be tough opposition for Nepal in cricket and most of the fixtures between these two sides have been thrilling.
Though Nepal has faced defeat in majority of the matches, it overcame Afghanistan during their last encounter in the ICC World T20 played in March in Bangladesh.
