Kathmandu District Court on Thursday remanded former General Secretary of the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) Ang Kaji Sherpa to four days in custody under the Electronic Transaction Act, 2008.
SP Bishwo Raj Pokharel, spokesperson of Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu, said, “We have initiated investigation on Ang Kaji Sherpa after the court remanded him in custody.”
According to police over 800 statuses regarding Kailali carnage posted on social media by Sherpa were found to be ‘jeopardizing social harmony, inciting regional and racial conflict and creating division among the security forces’.
A team from Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Kathmandu yesterday arrested Sherpa, who is also the central member of the Federal Socialist Forum, Nepal, from Bauddha on the charge of his ‘controversial’ contents on Facebook.
The photos posted by Sherpa have been categorized under ‘graphic content’. Facebook usually does so after Facebook users file a case against such contents after finding them grisly.
