Acid thrown on two teenagers in Rautahat

Two unidentified persons riding a motorbike threw acid at two teenagers at Garuda Bazaar located in the mid-Rautahat on Tuesday evening.

According to Area Police Office of Garuda, the two youths severely injured in the acid attack have been identified as Ranjit Ray Yadav, 18, of Gedahiguthi VDC, and Bikesh Yadav, 14, of Inarwari VDC in the district.

Right cheek and parts of body of both the victims have severely burnt due to the acid. Both are undergoing treatment at Garuda-based Healthland Hospital, Police Inspector Sikendra Yadav informed.

As per Rakesh Chaudhary, a doctor involved in the treatment, the condition of the injured was gradually getting better.

Eyewitnesses said that the attackers were riding red-colored pulsar motorbike but none of them could provide the bike´s number. They had brought the acid in a can of an energy drink, the eyewitnesses said.

On the day of the incident, one of the injured, Ranjit Yadav, who is an assistant at a local FM station called Radio Madhesh Mashala, had received frequent calls for advertisement.

The incident took place when Ranjit, along with his friend Dipesh, had gone to meet the person at the designated place, Police Inspector Yadav confirmed.

Meanwhile, Jayanath Yadav, president of Radio Madhesh Mashala, expressed serious concerns over the acid-attack and demanded that the perpetrators to be brought to book as soon as possible.

According to the police, Manoj Kumar Yadav, a former employee at the FM radio, has been taken into police custody on suspicion of his involvement in the attack.
