As many as 51 contraband drugs smugglers and users have been nabbed in two weeks in Pokhara.
The persons were nabbed during a 15-day anti-drug operation launched on September 10 by different anti-drugs organisations in coordination with District Police Office, Kaski.
Of the detainees, at least nine were involved in drug smuggling also, said police.
Police relelased some of the detainees with their guardians whereas some others are taken to drug rehabilitation centres, police said.
During the campaign, police and other organisations also educated 1,875 students on drug abuse whereas several marijuana plants were destroyed said police.
Other awareness programmes including documentary show were also organised.
Speaking at a function in Pokhara today, DIG Bam Bahadur Bhandari of Western Regional Police Office, said public awareness is the most effective measure to rid society of drug addiction problem.
A recent study has suggested that as many as 6,000 persons in Pokhara are involved in drug abuse whereas 500 of them are women.
