At least four people have died and five others were injured when a moving passenger bus was hit by falling boulders at Sisneri, Ranipauwa VDC-1 in Nuwakot district on Thursday.
There were 20 passengers in the bus (Ba 2 Kha 2841), which was heading for Kathmandu from Trishuli of Nuwakot. The bus was badly damaged when boulders falling from the hills hit it at Ranipauwa VDC-1.
“Bodies of four persons have been recovered,” Assistant Chief District Officer (CDO) Khagendra Ghimire told Republica.
The deceased have been identified as bus driver Prateeman BK of Bhorle VDC-6, Rasuwa; Raju Nepal of Madanpur VDC-6, and Chakra Bahadur Sijapati of Madanpur VDC-1, Nuwakot, and Hariman Basnet. Basnet’s address has yet to be ascertained, according to District Police Office (DPO) of Nuwakot.
Five of the injured who were rescued from the damaged bus are Aitaram Tamang and Karun Tamang of Kakani VDC-2, Bimala Tamang of Kakani VDC-1, Shreemaya Tamang and Salina Tamang of Satyadevi VDC-4, Dhading. They have been rushed to Kathmandu for treatment, according to District Police Office (DPO), Nuwakot.
Altogether 115 personnel from Nepal Police, 40 from Nepal Army and 15 from Armed Police Force were mobilized for the rescue operation, according to assistant CDO Ghimire. Separate teams of security personnel from the DPO Nuwakot and Metropolitan Police Circle of Balaju were deployed to carry out the rescue operation.
