22 injured in police-squatters clash in Morang

At least 22 people were injured when clashes erupted between police personnel and landless squatters at Pathari in Morang district on Tuesday.

According to Landless Squatters Struggle Committee, some dozen protesters were injured in police action as the former tried to block the traffic along the East-West Highway demanding the government institution provide them with landownership certificates. 

Ten police personnel also sustained injuries in the clashes, informed Inspector Ram Kumar Yadav at Area Police Office, Pathari.

The protesters also set some seven vehicles ablaze for defying the transportation strike.

Vice-chairman of the Landless Squatters Struggle Committee, Kapilmani Dhakal informed that they launched the agitation to pile pressure on the authorities to provide landownership certificates to them as they have been cultivating land since long after deforestation.
