2 school girls injured in Basantapur acid attack

Two school girls were attacked with acid by an unidentified gang while studying on a tution center at Basantapur in Kathmandu on early Sunday morning.

Samjhana Magar and Sima Basnet were studying at a tution center in Jhoche when they were attacked with acid by some four masked persons. Magar, a permanent resident of Khaniyapani in Ramechhap district, is said to be in critical condition while Basnet’s condition has been described as stable. Both are students of Shanti Kunja School and were preparing for the SLC examinations.

Magar is undergoing treatment at KMC Hospital while Basnet is admitted to Bir Hospital.

Magar’s father said that the perpetrators entered the tution center’s room by breaking the door and attacked the girls. “Three other girls were studying on their own with my daughter after their teacher was delayed. The attackers entered by breaking the door and attacked them,” Magar’s father said to ekantipur.

Magar’s family members were also irked by the delay in the treatment of their daughter in KMC Hospital. She didn’t not receive proper treatment even five hours after the attack, they said. Magar was hit on her chest and legs while Basnet had injuries to her face.

The victims said that police did not reach on time to rescue the girls. Basnet had to reach her home to pour water in the attacked part.

The motive behind the attack remains unknown.
