Two more Nepali athletes participating in the 17th Asian Games have disappeared from Incheon, South Korea. Wushu players Sombir Tamang and Nirajan Ale Magar were missing from the squad on Thursday.
With them, the number of Nepali players to disappear from Incheon has reached three. Sepak Takraw player Aman Pode had escaped from the athlete village on Wednesday.
Nirajan from the Armed Police Force had participated in thaulo while Sombir had competed in 65 kg sanshou. Sombir is from Sindhupalchowk district.
Nepali team learnt about their disappearance ahead of wushu team´s departure from the Olympics Village. “It was revealed only during farewell that Sombir and Nirajan had disappeared as they did not turn up for the farewell,” said Chhimi Urgen Gurung, the chef-de-mission of the Nepali team.
Gurung suspects wushu officials could be behind the disappearance. “Though team manager Chandra Tamang was aware that Sombir disappeared on Tuesday and Nirajan on Wednesday, we knew about their disappearance today (Thursday). This has tarnished the image of Nepali players,” said Gurung.
Meanwhile, team manager Chandra Gurung informed chef-de-mission about the disappearance of players on Thursday morning.
