A dozen of cases on violence against women have been registered at National Women Commission when the 16-day activism against gender-based violence is taking place in the country.
During a programme held at NWC on Wednesday, Commission’s Member Urmila Devi Biswokarma informed that total 12 cases including eight related to domestic violence and four concerning gender-based violence were registered during the campaign period.
She underscored the need to introduce strong and clear laws to check rising cyber crimes in society as women have fallen prey to such crimes.
Secretary at Women, Children and Social Welfare Dhan Bahadur Tamang said the 16-day campaign has helped put together our efforts and hold us accountable to work against gender-based violence.
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence is an international campaign originating from the first Women’s Global Leadership Institute sponsored by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership in 1991.
