A total of 117 banda enforcers involved in arson and vandalism during the general strike called by 33 political parties have been arrested from different parts of the country on Sunday, the Nepal police said.
The 33 political parties led by Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist called for two-day general against the draft constitution. The protestors took to vandalism to make their strike a success and reacted violently against those who defied their banda call.
Police arrested ninety-eight people from Kathmandu, eight from Lalitpur, four from Makwanpur, three from Kaski and one each from Morang and Makwanpur for terrorising the general public.
In Kathmandu, the banda enforcers vandalised a taxi at Koteshwor and a passenger bus at Tinkune.
In Nepalgunj, the supporters of United Madhesi Morcha set fire to copies of various newspapers including Kantipur daily saying that the papers did not publish their news.
Likewise, the banda enforcers torched three vehicles at Basabasahi in Nawalparasi district during the banda.
Banda enforcers vandalised a passenger jeep at Holangadi in Tansen and also taken a motorcycle under their control.
