Ten people were killed when a bus plunged 200 meters down the road while giving side to a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction near Nepal Army Barrack at Pyuthan Municipality-3 on Monday. Twenty-four passengers have sustained injuries in the accident.
The bus (Na 3 Kha 8383) belonging to Swargadwari Public Transportation committee was heading for Bangefedi from district headquarters Khalanga when the accident occurred.
Six people died on the spot, three died in course of treatment and one succumbed to his injuries on the way to Bhairahawa for treatment.
The deceased are identified as Maya KC of Pyuthan Municipality-15, Narendra GC of Torwang-5, bus driver Dan Bahadur Pokhrel of Torwang-6, Sita Pandit of Gadhwa, Dang, Sandesh Sunar of Khalanga, Lanka Bahadur Rahu Magar of Kapilvastu and Hasta Bahadur Basnet of Khaira -6.
The identities of three other deceased have not been established yet, said district police chief Tul Bahadur Karki.
Nepal Army, Nepal Police and locals jointly carried out the rescue work. They faced difficulties in rescue as the accident spot was in between the two hills.
Nepal Red Cross society carried out primary health aid in the accident area.
Twelve people injured in the accident are receiving treatment at Bijuwar District Hospital while the hospital has referred 11 other injured to elsewhere.
