10 hotel operators booked for trading flesh in Itahari

BIRATNAGAR: Police on Sunday filed a human trafficking case against 10 persons who were operating hotels around Itahari of Sunsari district.

Police have accused nine women and a man of taking women hostage at their hotels and forcing them for flesh trade.

DSP Binod Sharma of Area Police Post, Itahari said police moved the court responding to complaints filed by victims and locals.

Those booked under the Human Trafficking and Transportation (Control) Act, 2007, are Radha Tamang of Om Gajal, Sapana Shrestha of Sapana Hotel, Radha Acharya of Bhetghat Hotel, Rupa Tamang of Pheri Bhetaula Hotel, Gyanu Rai of Parijat Hotel, Shova Dahal of Vision Hotel, Sushila Bista of Shubha Prabhat Hotel, Sabitra Giri aka Saru of Baghmare Hotel, Rama Niraula of Romeri Hotel and Manoj Chaudhary of Rahul Hotel. 

DSP Sharma said as many as 178 locals of Itahari and surrounding areas had filed a joint complaint against the hotel operators.

One of the accused Radha Tamang was a candidate of the Constituent Assembly election held last year for Sunsari-2 from the Madhesi Tigers’ Party.

Meanwhile, the Hotel Association of Itahari has demanded stern actions against the accused.
