It is our pleasure to inform you that Clean up Nepal is organizing Clean up Nepal 2014, a nationwide cleanup campaign to be held on Saturday, 20 September 2014 from 7am to 11am. Clean up Nepal 2014 is affiliated to the Clean up the World campaign that engages an estimated 35 million volunteers in 130 countries each year. We extend an invitation to you and members of your organization to partner with us to participate in the global clean up activity on that day as part of the Clean Up the World Weekend global campaign.
Clean up Nepal is a movement that aims to unite stakeholders to work towards a cleaner and greener Nepal. Clean up Nepal 2013 was the first nationwide clean-up movement in Nepal that saw 12 National Partners, 120 Local Partners and 15, 430 Volunteers come together on 21 September 2013 to collect 84, 564.5 kilos of rubbish at 45 locations in 20 cities. The campaign is run by volunteers located globally with 5,000 hours contributed to organise this event in 2013. Since Clean up Nepal began in January 2013, 176,000 kilos of waste has been collected by 21, 280 volunteers. Volunteers throughout Nepal contributed 68, 840 hours to clean-up in and around their localities in 2013. As clean-up activities are undertaken by members of local communities, all this was possible with a budget of only NRs. 92, 358.75. An amazing achievement by communities in Nepal!
In 2014, Clean up Nepal’s objective of cleaner and healthier communities will receive continuity through a number of nationwide events. Clean up Nepal 2014 aims to improve urban and rural environments in Nepal through community-based cleanup campaigns. At a macro level, the Clean up Nepal 2014 campaign aims to unite stakeholders involved in the environment sector and those concerned about the environment to work together in synergy to facilitate mass clean up events and community training aimed at addressing the problem of solid waste management throughout Nepal. At a micro level and in practical terms, the approach for Clean up Nepal 2014 is simple – get together friends and family, join or register a local site and participate in the nation-wide clean up events throughout 2014.
How will we achieve this
Clean up Nepal will facilitate local events throughout Nepal and bring together local organizations for joint cleanup activities during the nationwide cleanup events in 2014 including on 20 September 2014 as part of the Clean Up the World Weekend global event. We believe that by harnessing combined stakeholders’ synergies and raising the profile of environmental activities, we will enhance current cleanup activities, increase public awareness of reducing waste generation and haphazard waste disposal, and at the same time educate the community about waste management, waste disposal and influence the introduction of required infrastructure and services.
Through our one-stop portal www.cleanupnepal.org.np and social media, Clean up Nepal provides a framework for stakeholders to engage with each other, collaborate and develop working relationships for shared environmental objectives. Local partners’ efforts will be shared, celebrated and promoted through these platforms. The unified platform is a hub for stakeholders to synergize their efforts and generate an even more positive impact on Nepal’s environment.
Clean up Nepal will provide:
• proactive support throughout the entire campaign;
• technical assistance to partners to organize local events; and
• information, guides and Clean up Nepal information resources for partners.
Your participation and support in our campaign will help move Nepal one step closer to being clean, healthy and green. We look forward to receiving your positive response and working with you in this campaign. We are happy to respond to any questions you have about Clean up Nepal 2014.
